How to build relationships online and be that friend in the know

Social media is an opportunity for you to build relationships with your customers and position yourself as a friend in the know. This week we're introducing you to two Warwickshire businesses who are nailing communicating their specialist and expert services with humour and personality.  Here the owners share their social media tips so that you can learn from their  approach.

Use humour and banter to drive engagement

Sykes Timber :Merchants operate a 10 acre site in Atherstone Warwickshire. They are a family run business who have been around for almost 160 years. Sykes’ audience is very niche. Their Instagram audience are interested in beautiful design or prospective customers on Facebook looking specifically for a product or service. They focus on three main areas: product, beautiful and inspirational design, and their heritage.

But as well as taking their business seriously, they also enjoy taking a tongue a cheek approach when it comes to showing what not to do driving engagement from people having a bit of a giggle or chat around how things should be done.

Top tip: Make sure humour is harmless good clean fun to avoid cheapening your brand

Creativity and collaboration

Detailed by Dale is fast establishing its place as the Midlands Premier Car detailing studio. Based near Atherstone, Warwickshire their secure facility houses the best products and knowledge money can buy.

Their approach on social media is to treat their audience like a friend. They are funny, witty and bang on with their content. They know what works and what doesn't and they use both static photos and video content to appeal to their potential clients. They love showing off their fun side which appeals to their largely male audience with whom they share a passion for creativity and cars. The industry is small and collaborative. Detailed by Dale also love to credit other businesses in their industry that they respect, to show support.

Top tip: Be unapologetically you. Know who you are, love what you do and use Instagram as your shop window to showcase your expertise and passion
