It’s been a busy week for the social media news cycle. Adidas got us all talking with the launch of their #SupportIsEverything campaign, Messenger launched new features for Black History Month, and despite a goal drought for his club, a world-famous footballer hit the big time on Instagram, being the first person to hit 400m followers on the platform.

Adidas hits all the social media news headlines
Adidas got us all talking last week with the launch of their #SupportIsEverything sports bra campaign on social media, featuring a collection of 25 naked female torsos with bare breasts of all shapes and sizes.
A hot debate started to rage. Was the campaign sexist, or a celebration of diversity? Whatever your opinion, in terms of a campaign launch strategy, they smashed it, with over 4k retweets, 10k quote retweets, and 28k likes (at the time of writing).
The message for small businesses on social? Be brave, know your audience, and go for it; but be prepared to respond to the feedback!
We believe women’s breasts in all shapes and sizes deserve support and comfort. Which is why our new sports bra range contains 43 styles, so everyone can find the right fit for them.

LinkedIn test an update to personalise your newsfeed
The social media news hive tells us that LinkedIn is reported to be testing some exciting features, including a ‘no politics’ setting, to enable users to turn off political content in their newsfeed.
Will this update mean that we’ll see even more of the cheesy motivational stories, hustle culture, and humblebrags that have come to characterise the platform recently?
If your business shares content that could be termed ‘political’, you may need to rethink your LinkedIn content strategy to ensure that post reach isn't negatively affected when the rollout becomes universal.

Instagram Avatars have landed!
Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri explained in a recent video: "Avatars are a key building block for the future of personal identity in the metaverse."
In short, the metaverse is coming – ready or not – and these fun little digital personas are the first part of the puzzle. At the moment, Instagram Avatars can only be used on stories and DMs – but the future of Avatars holds a whole lot more.
We can’t wait to see brands start to jump on this new feature.

Ronaldo hits 400m!
Now, smart business owners know that follower counts aren’t the be-all and end-all when it comes to success on social media.
But still, hats off to Cristiano Ronaldo, who became the first person in the world to hit 400 million followers on Instagram last week. Blimey!
We’re pretty sure Man Utd fans would have preferred him to hit the target with his penalty against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup though… and on that note, we’ll be off!
