Google 'My Business' adds new search tags to support businesses through COVID-19

As user search terms like ‘takeaway’ ‘curbside pick up’, ‘available near me’, and ‘in-store shopping’, have dramatically increased. since COVID-19, Google has added more ways for businesses to highlight how they are catering to changing customer needs. It has updated the options for listings on Google My Business profiles relating to pick-up options, service changes and more.

Record rise of Pinterest app downloads driven by IOS 14 update

The excitement around the ability to customise your iPhone home screen following the release of iOS 14 has been paying off for Pinterest with a record 800,000 downloads in a day. 

The Pinterest home page today showcases iPhone design trends as one of its “Daily Inspirations,” where the collection “Trending wallpapers and aesthetic home screen ideas” is currently sitting at the top of the page. Here, users are finding iPhone backgrounds and sharing other custom designs and icon sets for people to use in their own creations.

Instagram Reels is doubling the length of videos in a new update

Instagram is rolling out an update which will double the length of Reel videos, allowing users to make 30-second videos instead of 15 seconds. Other updates include extending the timer up to 10 seconds while recording a reel, and the ability to trim and delete any clip. Instagram is expected to roll out these updates to all users soon.

Facebook appears to have dropped 20% Text rule for Facebook Ads

Important social media news for Facebook advertisers. The big news is that Facebook will no longer penalise ads with higher amounts of image text in auctions and delivery, although their advice remains that images with less than 20% text generally perform better.

Facebook Business Suite to help small business owners

Facebook is rolling out a new app called Facebook Business Suite for small business owners that lets them manage their business pages or profiles across Facebook and Instagram. 

The app will enable users to post to Facebook and Instagram at the same time, and manage and receive messages, notifications, and alerts in one place. 

The interface will also provide access to engagement metrics with a Facebook and Instagram insights tab.
