Retail Rocks the Cotswolds highlights the importance of social listening

A new magazine from Rock the Cotswolds has been launched to help retailers of all sizes thrive. In its first issue, the importance of social listening for independent businesses has been highlighted.

In an interview with Maybe* CEO and Founder Polly Barnfield OBE, Retail Rocks the Cotswolds discusses what social listening is and why it’s important for all businesses.

“There can be some misunderstanding about what social listening is. It’s not just monitoring likes or engagements on posts - it’s about looking at every social media platform in a number of ways so that this can be placed in a retailer’s marketing or product development strategy. There are many ways to use social listening effectively, for every level of business from small traders right up to entire cities.”

Melissa Orminston, the editor of Rock the Cotswolds, wanted to understand how social listening could be of benefit to independent businesses. We steered her in the direction of Keith Scarrott Shoes who have used the Maybe* platform to listen to the conversations happening around their brand and products, and as a result, were able to launch a massively successful new product line.

“With the current state of retail - some businesses doing well, some not so well - the finger is often pointed at online shopping, high rates and lack of parking when sales aren't great. However, these issues are long-term and Rock the Cotswolds wanted to help right now so asked for advice we could offer retailers today to make the industry rock even further."

The article highlights how Maybe* has helped Keith Scarrott identify which Influencers are the best for them to work with.

"Many of the ones we were recommended had a slightly lower number of followers but they were the kind of followers that would appreciate and love Keith Scarrott shoes.”  -  Sophie Scarrott

The Maybe* platform allows retailers, and businesses of all kinds, to understand which Influencers will deliver the strongest value in terms of driving footfall and sales.

“When the Maybe* platform started we were put forward to trial it and we had no idea what a success it would be. We knew our demographic, but by listening in to what people were saying online, about shoe shopping and what they wanted, we were able to develop a new product - the Keith Scarrott trainer - for a new, younger audience and our sales have increased at a phenomenal rate."
